South Side Free Inc. is a completely community-funded, grassroots initiative serving the South Side of Chicago.

Our mission is to alleviate the burden of poverty for South Side residents and to provide resources and opportunities that empower self-actualization, nurture community connectedness, and contribute to building a more equitable world, for the South Side of Chicago and all South Sides everywhere.

Our entire team, including the founder, is made up of unpaid volunteers. We rely on fundraising from both the local and global community, as well as partnerships with local businesses who serve as drop-off locations and donate resources. Community members and patrons of our free store frequently contribute clothing and food donations to keep our operations sustainable and rooted in mutual aid. We do not accept any government or corporate funding.

Our primary program is a weekly distribution on 71st & Clyde, but we envision expanding to become a comprehensive hub for free resources.
